Airplanes tend to refer to their battery systems by the power of the generator required to power one. A 24 volt power supply isn’t standard on larger craft, but it’s the typical generator capacity for small and mid-sized craft.

There are a few reasons why airplanes use higher voltage batteries. For one, they have far more to power than the average car. What’s happening in the cab of an airplane is far more power intensive than what your car’s radio is doing.  Plus, the wiring is thinner and amounts to less weight.
